Medical marijuana: 80% U.S. voter support
by
James JS.
ABSTRACT
A national poll reveals widespread support for the medical use of marijuana. The American Civil Liberties Union polled 1001 registered voters and found that eighty percent approve of marijuana use to relieve pain symptoms. A majority also favored decriminalization. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) says that although 36 states have passed laws supporting medical use of marijuana, these laws cannot be implemented until the Federal government changes the drug's classification from a Schedule I to a Schedule II controlled substance, which would allow physicians to prescribe it.
